This is a very good app! Very intuitive with plenty of great lesson!
This is one of the best apps for Children.
Really fun, makes learning chess a non-ridiculous task. Maurice Ashley is hilarious.
Great way to learn chess, easy to understand. Teaching of the Chess Board, is fantastic. Players of all strengths can benefit. Tal loved reading beginner book. I got my moneys worth Willie Johnson
I love the skill builders. I can now easily point to a square and name it rather than counting the squares.
I cant imagine learning chess getting any easier than a step by step tutorial app like this filled with activities and drills to actually learn everything instead of just being presented with the information!
very nice chess lessons. hope for more in a future update
This app has some issues. The "lessons" are great, and he does a very nice job of summarizing each point. The exercises are ok and COULD be great, if they included any explanation of why your move was wrong. As it is, if the student doesnt know the right move, he kind of flounders around guessing and trying everything until he finally gives up or accidentally gets it right by process of elimination. This takes FOREVER and not a great way to learn. A "hint" option would be great for some of the harder exercises. Also, the pieces are sometimes very hard to move! You cant really see which square youre moving the piece to. The app should highlight the square that the piece is over so you know when to let go of it. Anyway, Im not sure I would call this app chess "lessons", because the feedback is so minimal or non-existent during the exercises. His intro explanations about each topic are very good, though.
This is a great application for beginners and a wonderful way for seasoned players to review and hone their skills. Maurice Ashley definitely keeps it fun and humorous.
If you want to learn how to play chess or train to become better I would strongly recommend this program. I bought his original program around 15 years ago and loved it. He has an upbeat way about him which I like. There are many diffferent training tools which are helpful to become a better chess player. I have only touched the surface of the program so far. It is well worth the $4.99.
:-))) would love it more if after solving a problem the board was still visible. how about a smaller menu/next pop up placed off the board? and keep the undo so you can still step back into the problem to study it again? ... same with the again/menu pop up, off the board and add undo?
Love this app! I was familiar with the basics and needed help learning strategy. This app is PERFECT!! So much fun! Tutorials are solid, loads of training puzzles, even the AI is great! And there are three levels of puzzles and AI for whatever your level. Worth every penny!!!
This is the formula. Now for twenty more segments...and just a little deeper this time. Release it as a sequel - Ill buy it.
Great app to train basic chess!
I met Maurice at EO NERVE 2011 in NYC during an amazing presentation. Wow! He was such a nice intelligent person. I always wished there was an app like this when i was a boy!! I have not played for years but loved it when i was very young. I bought this up to brush up my chess playing and get ready to introduce it to my 4 1/2 year old boy. Cant wait to master it again!
I have tried quite a few methods to enhance my chess tactics, but this app has been the obvious best so far! The practice puzzles imitate many familiar situations that usually DO occur in the game! It is definitely worth the money! Totally recommended!!
I used this to help play better. Its a cool app.
When exercises reach mate in two moves, the software doesnt allow all legal moves on the second move.
The instruction is solid. The skill builders are very useful and the games are very challenging. If you want to learn Chess this is the app.
